March 2006
I addressed the foundation of the house this
month. I added french drains along the walls and a sump
pump. I also had
to have parts of the foundation mud-jacked.
The problem with mud-jacking is that a lot of the exterior bricks
cracked along the mortar.
One section of the basement. Most of the pipes were
covered with asbestos that had to be removed.
The thing next to the water heater is an incinerator for burning
trash. I have removed it since incineration of trash is no longer
legal in Topeka.
A panorama of the other section of the basement. This
room will eventually become my media room.
I like the basement because the temperature down here is relatively
constant at about 70 degrees.
The electrical was interesting.
Large screw in fuses and knob and tube wiring.
The copper pipe you see was stolen during a break-in a month later,
which
flooded this section of the basement. Damn Crack-heads!
